The East African Goats

The East African Goats (Male) are also known as desert to urban goats by the locals. Their colour range from pure white to pure black with various intermixes of roan and speckled brown. The tassels (toggles) occur in up to 30% of the population. Adults males can weigh 30kg-40 kg and females 25kg-30kg. They grow up to a height of 64 cm at the shoulders. Both sexes have horns and the horns vary from 2.5 cm to 20 cm. The ears are medium in length (approximately 12 cm) Male under 14 months have beards and are always short and fine for good meat.They are useful animals for an upgrading programme.

The Galla is an indigenous goat from northern Kenyan also known as Boran or Somali goat. These are milk queens of Kenyan arid and semi arid areas and are white haired with black skin on the nose, feet and underneath the tail.
